Today the Winnipeg Jets trimmed their roster, sending two players to the IceCaps before they begin their season later this week. Among the two was Paul Postma, who will likely be the IceCaps’ best defenceman this season. It’s unfortunate that he couldn’t crack the Jets lineup, but from an IceCaps’ fan point of view, this is a huge boost for the club this season.
From the Jets official site:
The Winnipeg Jets today announced they have released Janne Pesonen and assigned Paul Postma and Jason Gregoire to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.
Postma will likely have his chance to join the Jets full-time in the future, but right now they’re pretty jammed up on the blueline with NHL contracts. He’ll join the IceCaps for the beginning of their regular season and likely be the first-to-call if injuries arise with the parent club.
Gregoire, another youngster at only 22 years of age, should be a big contributor as well. Last season the winger put together a good campaign with 43 points in 35 games for the University of North Dakota in the WCHA.
